Lois Burak pitch for a show on Howard 101

  • Lois Burak
    • A few days ago, I decided to pitch another show for Howard 101.
I listen to the show every day, probably more focused on each word than most super fans.
I don’t think many would argue that Robin is a great representation of a strong self assured female.
And Lisa G offers a decent amount of estrogen as well.
BUT when it comes to other programs or The Big H‘s channels…there isn’t any recurrent program that displays a strong open minded honest female host / co host. This surprises me since Howard has expressed discontentment with the disconnect he has with women that find him revolting.

This last year I have been on a mission to fulfill a dream. That is to become an honest & provocative broadcaster like my late father, but not for just any radio station. My dream is to have a program air on Howard 101. I desire to be a part of a media empire established by a man I greatly admire.
It’s been a tough year. I put myself through broadcasting school while handling many adversities.
The entire time with one goal in mind, to meet w/ Tim Sabean and pitch a show, & or to work within The Stern Organization in some capacity.
My journey has been quite unique…you could say, I have lived a life that was made for Stern radio.
But I won’t get into the details now.
In this past year I have established myself with a select group of Stern fans on face book.
Prior to that, being a Stern fan was fairly unknown. For 25 years I owned and operated a salon… It was no picnic defending my love for Stern to the many women that frequented my salon. Talk of Howard was just as taboo as Politics or Religion. I hated that I had to bite my tongue on many occasions. I felt like a sellout, keeping my mouth shut for the all mighty dollar.

I did get my meeting with Tim…which was a great honor. My biggest disadvantage…lack of on air experience.
Obtaining this has been a bit of a challenge…I have been propositioned by men (married & single) in exchange for radio play and have had a few that seemed unsettled by my presence…
I have been mistaken for someone who has “daddy issues” that will kneel & suck off some dude to get behind the mic. I have been labeled, in many cases as a result of my strong passion for Stern.

I’d like to share my most recent pitch, a one off, a chance to show Tim & Howard what I am capable of.
And who knows what after that. I know I come alive when given the chance to sit behind that mic.
It’s like going for a spin on your favorite amusement park ride. You are a little anxious at first, and then exhilarating…and when it’s over you can’t wait to go again.

In addition I’d also like to share with you a comment that a g/f of 25 years posted on my face book page.
She was upset because she perceived I was ignoring her. When in truth she had strayed away from me, but was not unusual for our friendship. Nothing changed…other than my career path & frequent display of affection for my hero. Needless to say, she was never a Stern fan.

LOIS I LUV YA BUT IT AT THE POINT ALL YOU TALK ABOUT HOWARD AND YOURSELF …….EVERYTHING YOU POST IS ABOUT YOU OR HOWARD IT IS JUST WEIRD….YOU NEVER ASK OR SEEM TO CARE ABOUT ANYONE OR ANYTHING UNLESS IT GOING TO COME BACK TO YOU SOMEHOW …THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS YOU HAVE SAID MANY TIME YOU NEED HELP WIT…H YOU LAWN WHY ARENT THESE GUYS COMING OVER TO HELP…..LOIS I AM SORRY BUT YOU ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON I HAVE CALL LEFT YOU MESS ABOUT HOW THE NEW YORK THING WENT NOTHING ….IT ALMOST LIKE IF YOU CANT HELP ME THEN I AM DONE WITH YOU …..YOU REALLY ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON AS YOU WERE YOU ARE NOW VERY INTO LOIS AND NOTHING ELSE IF YOU THEY ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT LOSI YOU ARE NOT HAPPY…..HOWARD IS NOT GOD LOIS IS IS JUST SCARY WHAT HAS HAPPEND….I AM SORRY LOVE

      Here is my latest Pitch:
      “OOOOH, CUNTY”
The Trials & Tribulations of an Out & Proud female Stern Fan
Can you imagine what it’s like being single, female, a non celebrity or a person without notoriety that’s also a Howard Stern fan?
With my female piers I’m labeled as a freak, degenerate, and am shunned. They feel I contribute to the misogynistic attitudes believed to be perpetrated by Howard
Men view me as either promiscuous, sex crazed, exhibitionist and/or as a woman who just wants to flash Howard my tits.
Men have told me, that they thought I was some kind of kook because I express the desire to have a radio program on Howard 101..I’d ask, would I also be a kook if I was just as passionate about being a weather girl?
Stern haters are just as adamant about their dislike for him. It’s just not as simple as, I like chocolate, you like vanilla. .. They actually become belligerent.
If you think it’s just me…
When I was at the Baba Booey book signing in Philly I met a woman who told me she was a closeted
Howard fan. She would not share her love for the show with her friend’s family and co workers for fear of the above.
Many times the other women on Stern Fan face book pages have stated…
“My friends just don’t get it”
Of course we’ve all heard of the countless celebrities & their publicist that are reluctant to come forward and announce their love for Howard. The reasoning behind that is even worse when you are a layperson.
A full hour would fly by with calls from listeners (male & female) addressing ….
Why I believe women have issue with Stern.
Many women see Stern as the single friend of their husband who drags him to the strip joint.
Although Oprah taught us there is no shame in saying the word VAGINA on prime time TV, she failed to discuss the Real issues women should address. This is being secure with their sexuality & their femininity.
Discussions I have had with men who are unhappy in their marriage…
Male Stern Fan’s who feel they have the right to disrespect a female Stern fan. Pigeon holing that person with their perspective of what they think the show is. Falling into the misperception of who Howard is and playing into that stereo type. (just one example: my recent appearance on SFRT I had to threaten to cut another guest’s balls off in order to get him to respect me as an equal)
People expect the female Stern Fan to be in the adult entertainment industry. There are many business /corporate professionals & housewives that love the show…
I’d ask my female callers their age and occupation as well as why do they love HS
      Women on Women hate
Ask women on the street. “Why do you dislike like Howard?” (It’s been my personal experience that most of the time they can’t come up with a definitive explanation. They usually resort to referencing Allison. )

The Show has a huge female fan base that gets ostracized for being a Stern fan. I believe in many cases we gals go unnoticed in the eyes of our KING!

It is the little bits that fret and worry us; we can dodge an elephant but we can’t dodge a fly.
